JOB TITLE: CAREER EXPLORATION TEACHER

SUMMARY:  Provides support to the instructional process as a teacher focused on career exploration through the lens of multiple fields and developing skills contributing to the overall academic and personal success of middle school students. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitates group sessions to help middle school students identify their interests, strengths, and potential career goals
  • Provides information on various career pathways and options available to students
  • Collaborates with students to develop individualized academic and career plans
  • Offers guidance on appropriate course selections and extracurricular activities related to students' career interests, with a particular emphasis on industrial arts basics
  • Organizes guest speaker events, or field trips to expose students to different professions and industries
  • Integrates real-life problem-solving scenarios and hands-on learning experiences, including industrial arts basics, to enhance students' understanding of various careers
  • Incorporates fundamental principles of industrial arts, such as woodworking, metalworking, and basic machinery operation, into the curriculum to provide hands-on learning opportunities
  • Fosters a practical understanding of industrial processes and skills that align with potential career paths in related fields
  • Assists students in creating resumes, cover letters, and portfolios
  • Conducts activities to help students develop effective communication and interview skills, with a focus on showcasing their understanding of industrial arts basics
  • Provides information about college and vocational training programs, emphasizing those related to industrial arts and skilled trades
  • Supports students in exploring post-secondary options, including researching potential schools and applying for financial aid
  • Collaborates with parents, teachers, and other school staff to ensure a comprehensive approach to students' academic and career development
  • Attends school events to promote communication about students' progress and future plans, including their engagement with industrial arts basics
  • Stays updated on trends in the job market, educational opportunities, and advancements in various industries, particularly those related to industrial arts, to provide accurate and relevant information to students
  • Maintains accurate records of career exploration sessions, academic and career plans, and students' achievements in industrial arts basics
  • Attends staff meetings and district in-service programs (see Policy GCMC)
  • Serves on school and district committees as requested and able
  •  Is responsible for discharging instructional and non-instructional school-related activities in a thorough and timely manner
  • Acts as a supportive and contributing member of the professional staff by participating in group decision making, and contributing to the development of a positive, cooperative educational environment
  • Participates in professional development activities to enhance professional skills and maintain Arizona certification
  • Evaluates, provides, and maintains accurate reports and records of individual student progress on a regular basis; this includes accurate attendance records, grade reports, and special program requirementsIdentifies and refers unusual student behavior to the appropriate specialists 
  • Reports any student injury or illness or injury to self on school grounds or at school events to the site nurse and principal
  • Enforces and follows the school and district approved discipline plan
  • Is responsible for the supervision of students at all times on school grounds or at school events
  • Advises administration in accordance with established policies and completes all required forms accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Accounts and maintains inventory for classroom, school and district property as required
  • Advises administration of needed repairs, replacements and/or unsafe building conditions as soon as they occur
  • Follows school regulations regarding emergency procedures
  • Reports to work daily at the times assigned and remains on duty through the time prescribed Submits and justifies purchasing recommendations to support and enhance the instructional program to the Site Principal or designee
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student educational needs and progress
  • Interprets and communicates school policies and programs to students and parents
  • Maintains appropriate records as required by site and district level administration Performs those duties on school grounds or at school events which protect the health and safety of students and other employees
  • ADD LANGUAGE IF it’s necessary to have a certain certification in order to get paid out of CTE funds

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of accepted instructional techniques and methods for working with children
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to produce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members 
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding and growth mindset related to current and evolving trends in classroom instruction, management, and assessment 
  • Demonstrates proficiency and leadership in the ongoing decision-making process for implementing research-based best practices
  • Proficient in research-based best practices for instruction, supervision, and coaching for improved professional practice 
  • Reflective and introspective with regards to own personal development and growth
  • Ability to professionally handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor's Degree 
  • Valid Arizona Teacher certificate with required endorsements,
  • Three years experience as a teacher 
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements
  • Criminal justice/Fingerprint clearance



Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Suite.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb, sit, stand, bend, walk and operate hand and foot controls simultaneously. The employee would be required to pass the physical performance test as required by DPS.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Indoors and outdoors, with exposure to all weather conditions and temperatures. Exposure to all types of traffic conditions.  Exposure to noise, dust, gas and fumes.The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Contact with employees, students and public.
